(7 February 2017) Continues its international teaching activities of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa in sub- Saharan Africa to bring a new contribution to the peaceful reconstruction of the Central African Republic, with two training courses for diplomats. The first part of the project will be held at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa, where it will continue for two weeks, involving six senior diplomats of the Central African Republic that will take part in a training course. In May it will follow the second part of the project for a period of two months in Yaoundé (Cameroon) at the structure of the Institute for International Relations of Cameroon, the project partner. The project is a concrete result of the visit made last October by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs with responsibility for International Cooperation, Mario Giro - the first Italian authority to travel to Bangui - and the Brussels Conference, which reaffirmed the commitment of partner countries and donors, including Italy, to accompany the Central Africa in its process of stabilization and institutional and socio-economic reconstruction. "There can be no reconstruction - said the vice minister Mario Giro - without rebuilding the institutions and human capacity of the Central African ruling class. Through this pilot project, created and funded by the Foreign Ministry, we aim to make our contribution to the creation of an executive body. A strong added value "concluded the deputy minister" is the trilateral cooperation involving Italy and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa as a technical partner, as well as Cameroon, important neighbor of the Central African Republic, and the 'Institute for International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC), setting up a strong regional vocation. The role of the neighboring countries is crucial for lasting peace and the reconstruction of Central Africa". (Red)

ABOUT / WAR AND CHANGE

Since December 2012 the conflict in the country has caused thousands of civilian casualties and more than half a million refugees who have left the Central African Republic to seek asylum in neighboring countries. However, the change in the political landscape after the election of Faustin-Archange Touadéra in February 2016 opened new perspectives and peace and reconstruction of the battered central African country also go through Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and its training activities.
