Music: Vito Clemente pays tribute <br> to Niccolò Van Westerhout

(8 February 2017) Vito Clemente pays tribute, in Tokyo, to the great composer from Apulia, Niccolò Van Westerhout on Monday February 27 at the Umberto Agnelli Auditorium of the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo (18:30-20:30). This event was organised by the organising committee of the Japan Apulia Festival and by the ICI and is sponsored by the Italian Embassy in Tokyo, Apulia Region, the city of Bari and the municipality of Bitonto. Clemente will perform on the piano along with an entirely Japanese chorus. This is an evening to commemorate Niccolò van Westerhout (Mola di Bari, 17 December 1857 – Naples, 21 August 1898): e major exponent of the Neapolitan school of opera and author of numerous arias of very refined lyricism. Vito Clemente has directed orchestras in some of the most prestigious theatres in Japan such as the New National Theatre of Tokyo, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Aichi Prefectural Theatre of Nagoya, the Festival Hall of Osaka, Symphony Hall of Fukuoka, Kobe Kokusai Kaikan, and Sapporo Hokkaido Kosei since 2004. He has directed in Argentina (Teatro Avenida de Mayo of Buenos Aires), Portugal, Romania, Hungary, Brazil (Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Porto Alegre), Spain (Auditorium Nacional de Musica of Madrid), Czech Republic (National Theatre ‘A. Dvorak’ of Ostrava), Qatar, Albania (“Andrea Chenier” by Giordano at the National Opera Theatre and Ballet of Tirana, the Conference Centre, Chamber Orchestra of Tirana), Macedonia (“A Masquerade Ball” at the National Theatre and Ballet of Skopje), Germany (Spiegelgalerie des Konigsschlosses of Herrenchiemsee-Munich)with Prager Kammerorchester, in Korea ( “Don Giovanni” at the Daegu International Festival), and in the USA (“Dona Flor” by Niccolò van Westerhout at the New York Taconic Opera).
