Luca Vullo brings Italian gestuality to the Czech Republic

(9 February 2017) “The greatest satisfaction is transforming stereotypes into a cultural element, a fundamental linguistic ability in order to understand Italy and Italians. The majority of non-Italians from countries where hand gestures are not as common, have trouble understanding our gestuality see it as an act of folkloristic exuberance. What I like to do at every meeting is to demonstrate that we are in fact communicate with one of the most articulated and fascinating linguistic codes in the world” according to Luca Vullo (www.lucavullo.it also present on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) now seen as the ambassador of Italian gestuality in the world and whose documentary film “La voce del corpo” will be screened on Friday 17 February at 10:00 at the Cinema Lumière of Bratislava. This was made possible by the Bratislava Italian Cultural Institute’s organisation. Following this, there will be an exciting lecture on Italian gestuality held by the film director of “La voce del corpo”. (Red)

LUCA VULLO

Luca Vullo, film director and producer originally from Sicily, divides his time living and working in both London and Los Angeles. Over the course of his career, he made a socio-anthropological documentary film about Italian emigration titled “Dallo Zolfo al Carbone” (2008) that was well received internationally as his first documentary. It was nominated for the David di Donatello Awards and the Golden Globe Awards in 2009. This historical and psychological documentary film focuses on the consequences of the Italy-Belgium pact of 1946 and on the lives of Italian miners in Belgium after the Second World War. In 2011, Luca Vullo wrote, directed, and produced the documentary on Italian and Sicilian gestuality in particular, titled “La Voce del Corpo” which continues to receive global acclaim and this year also reaches Bratislava. Vullo’s latest production is the documentary “Influx” on Italian emigration in the United Kingdom, a very current theme in this particular socio-political phase.
