Brecht and the Piccolo Theatre, a story of cultural relations

(13 February 2017) “Dear Strehler, I would like to offer my complete works, one after the other, to Europe. Thanks, Bertolt Brecht”. On February 10, 1956 Brecht assisted in the staging of “Opera da tre soldi” on behalf of Giorgio Strehler in Milan. Brecht dies a few months later and Paolo Grassi embarks on a mission to bring Brecht’s works to Italy. Benedetto Alberto in “Brecht and the Piccolo Theatre. A question of rights” (Mimesis, 2016) talks about political culture, author rights, cultural relations between Italy and Germany. Alberto will be in conversation with Simona Morani on February 16 (18:30) at the Italian Cultural Institute of Munich. (Red)


THE PROTAGONISTS


Benedetto Alberto, born in Rome, graduated from the University of Trieste with a degree in contemporary history. After working for various festivals and theatres, he began working at the Piccolo Theatre in Milan in 1999 where in 2009 he became the production director. Simona Morani, born in Faenza in 1982 and raised in Canossa in the province of Reggio Emilia, graduated from the University of Modena with a degree in Modern Languages. She has been working in Munich for eight years as the author of “Quasi arzilli” (Giunti, 2015) and “Monaco d’autore” (Morellini 2016) and as a publisher and teacher of Italian.
