(February 13, 2017) Italy confirms its commitment to strengthen the Lebanese public health system. Last week was signed a contract between the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the University Hospital R. Hariri in Beirut - one of the few public health facilities in the country - and the company "Atom Medical Company SARL". The contract includes the supply of an X-Ray Blood Irradiator System: the purchase is intended to provide the Centre for the bone marrow transplant of R. Hariri hospital medical equipment of the latest generation. The hospital's general manager, Firas Abiad in thanking the Italian Cooperation, highlighted the importance that this purchase is in this particular historical moment as it will help the Hospital to address more efficiently the medical issues related to a growing influx of Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Abiad concluded expressing strong appreciation for the Italian commitment. (Red)

ABOUT / THE ITALIAN COOPERATION IN LEBANON

The Italian Development Cooperation in Lebanon supports efforts for the gradual stabilization of the socio-economic life and the country's politics. Active both in the framework of emergency initiatives and in the development of bilateral cooperation actions, the Italian Cooperation is one of the reference partner for the Lebanese government, becoming a privileged interlocutor for many sectors and in intervention strategies in response to the Syrian crisis. The evolution of the intervention strategy in the country, since the establishment of the Local Technical Unit at the Embassy in Beirut in 2006, has followed in a consistent manner the needs of the country, by funding at first emergency programs in the 2006 post-conflict scenario, which over the years has been joined by efforts with a log-term development perspective.
