(1 marzo 2017) As part of the “Circus Now International Contemporary Circus Exposure 2017” in New York (SkirballCenter 566 LaGuardia Place) the Italian- American troupe “Boom ! Circus” will showcase their talent in masquerade theatre by breathing new life into the ancient tradition of masked theatre. The show is filled with spontaneous improvisations engaging the public, heart-touching drama, impossible skills and hilarious moments of sheer humanity. “Peter Sweet and David Poznanter portray a cast of six characters who put on an entire circus complete with slackrope, Cyr Wheel, juggling, and live music" according to a statement posted on the Italian Cultural Institute of New York website. The show, directed by Matteo Destro, is for both adults, children and families. Destro has been conducting research on the tragic and comic dimensions of the mask through the creation of masks, courses, group projects, and shows, since 2000. “I create masks towards the pure research of the form that begins as I sculpt the material, and completes itself when the character comes alive on stage. Some of the masks become part of the shows that I conceive and direct. I play with the sensations and the stories I wish to tell as if they were clay, gesso, leather, or wood" explains Destro on his website. (red)
