Wedding tourism: Romantic Umbria showcased at ITB

(9 March 2017) Romantic Umbria showcased at ITB fair (Internationale Tourismus-Börse) in Berlin. “Love me in Umbria” is the project launched by the Umbria in 2016 to highlight the region as a romantic tourism destination. The results and future developments of the project will be presented to the German market today at the Internationale Tourismus-Börse of Berlin at 12:00 in the ITB conference area (Pavilion 1,2/A Stand 101). “Lovemein Umbria” arises from a collaboration with Lovemein Italy, the Lunargento platform that since 2012 promotes wedding tourism in Italy at an international level with a wide network of both German and Italian wedding planners. It offers young couples that wish to express their love for one another in a bucolic setting, engaged couples that choose castles and other locations in the ‘green’ heart of Italy to say ‘I do’, and mature couples that search for a peaceful and quiet setting of Umbrian villages and excellent wine and dining. “Umbria continues to bet on this sector of the market. Data from 2015 show a turnover of approximately €17million from foreigner’s weddings in Umbria in addition to the entire satellite industries and 87,000 foreigners equalling 7% of national tourist influxes related to the wedding sector” according to Fabio Paparelli the Vice President of the Region and Regional Councillor for tourism. “These numbers show that wedding tourism represents a niche market that is in rapid development and that is capable of increasingly arousing interest on which the Region has decided to invest in terms of the qualifications for a promotional-commercial offer”. ONE OF GERMANY’S FAVOURITE REGIONS

“Umbria is the second region of choice of German nationals” according to the Managing Director of ENIT Fabio Lazzerini on the basis of the report presented for the opening of the Italian Pavilion at the ITB in Berlin. The fair was attended by the Minister for Cultural Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini and the founder of Eataly, Oscar Farinetti. Representing Umbria at the fair will be the Vice President of the Region and Regional Councillor for Tourism, Fabio Paparelli who underlined “the fair is an important event, one which Umbria intends to be a part of thanks to their operators who will have the opportunity to directly interact with the German market”.
