Fight against pollution, University of Siena's researchers in the film

(March 10 2017) Fight against pollution speaks Italian. After years of research, travel and filming, the documentary on plastic that pollutes oceans "A Plastic Ocean", produced by international network of foundations "Plastic Oceans" was released worldwide: one part of the work, which tells about scientific studies about pollution of the oceans carried out by researchers from the five continents, is dedicated to the project "Plastic Busters" of the University of Siena. The film will be shown for the first time in Italy at the US Embassy in Rome on March 13, at 5.00 pm, with the participation of Professor Maria Cristina Fossi, who will comment the video and explains the work done with the project "Plastic Busters", dedicated to study and preventing microplastics pollution in the Mediterranean Sea. Part of the film was shot a few years ago in Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Siena's laboratories and in Sardinian Sea, where professor Fossi and his research group are working to sample the presence of microplastics, and investigate pollution's consequences on whales and other species' health. During the study on whales, the crew of "Plastic Oceans", along with apnea world champion Tanya Streeter, has shot beautiful images in Sardinian sea, in the cetaceans' "sanctuary" which is one of the Mediterranean areas with highest protection wich is unfortunately in danger because is severely threatened by huge quantities of plastic and other pollutants. The crew of reporters that realized the documentary, comes in large part from the BBC and is led by Jo Ruxton, specialized in nature and underwater filming documentaries who also has produced "The Blue Planet".
