Robots' aid in case of calamities, University of Siena in an international research group

(March 10 2017) It is called Tele-MAGMaS or better Human-in-the-loop Multi-robot Aerial-Ground Manipulation System. It's an international project about the use of robots for recovery operations in case of disasters and calamities with the participation of University of Siena. The Laboratory of Robotics and Systems - SIRSLab of University of Siena, led by Professor Domenico Prattichizzo, has worked with Seoul National University and Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) researchers team at the research center IRISA of Rennes and the LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse, which coordinates the group, to design stationary and flying robots that can cooperate with each other to carry and place objects in hazardous areas with hard access, so as to make possible the recovery of people involved in dangerous situations due to disasters or calamities, such as earthquakes, floods, avalanches. Tele-MAGMaS project is one of five finalists of KUKA Innovation Award 2017, the international competition called same as the supplier of intelligent automation solutions, to promote and sponsor the most innovative quality research in the field of human-robot cooperation and manipulation . "Being among the finalists of the award is already an achievement - says Professor Prattichizzo - because the competition has seen as every year, the participation of several highest level projects from all over the world. Our group, along with other team members, will work to implement a demo, which will be presented in April during the Hanover Fair 2017, which will host the final round of competition ". (Red)
