Art: Flower Power by Silvia Tuccimei on exhibit

(March 21, 2017) Next March 27 (6PM) at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Canberra will be opened the permanent exhibition of Silvia Tuccimei sculpture, Flower Power. The multidisciplinary artist has a well-established reputation in Australia. In 2013 one of her sculptures - "Secret Passage" - had been exhibited in the international collective called "Sculpture by the Sea". The following year, as a result of an agreements between the artist and the curator Damien Miller thanks to the interest of the Italian Institute of Culture in Sydney, the sculpture was exhibited permanently in the enchanting park setting of what was once the Governor summer residence between 1880 and 1950, located in the Sutton Forest in the Southern Highlands of NSW, location of the Festival called "Sculpture by the Hillview". In March 2015, curated by Donatella Cannova, the Italian Institute of Culture in Sydney hosted a personal of paintings and small sculptures titled "Out of the Box". Last year, her latest work, Flower Power, was even selected to participate in the international exhibition of sculpture set on the picturesque promenade between Bondi and Tamarama. In this latest edition of "Sculpture by the Sea", which is held every year since 1997 in the period from October to November, 100 artists were selected from a total of more than 500 applications. Flower Power work is composed of 3 modules approx. 3 m wide made of mirrored stainless steel, for 800 kg in weight. Its production has been made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Italian entrepreneur Fabio Bini, artistic director and CEO of OMCF, Florence, a company leader at international level in the manufacture of steel products. Over 20 people have worked at the creation of the sculpture. The strong link between the Roman artist and the Institute of Sydney is realized now, thanks to the willingness and cooperation of the Embassy of Italy in Canberra, with the permanent exhibition of Flower Power at the residence of the Ambassador of Italy in the Federal Capital. The initiative is part of a series of Italian contemporary art promotion activities conducted in recent years in Australia, which saw the involvement of the Italian diplomatic network in order to make known to the local public and to professionals selected artists also through the Farnesina Collection of contemporary art of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ABOUT / SILVIA TUCCIMEI

Silvia Tuccimei was born in Rome in 1960. In 1983 she obtained a diploma at the CSIA (Centro Scolastico per le Industrie Artistiche) in Lugano, Switzerland and subsequently moved to Paris, where she attended for 10 years the Angel-Perez sculpture studio. Here she pursued her obsession with the human form and geometric shapes. In Paris, her new environment caused Silvia to re-define her use of line, form and colour in a way that peels away the layers of the “seen world” in order to expose the under-lying fragility of life. For over 25 years Silvia has explored this theme through painting and sculpture and established an international reputation that has her work in constant demand.
