“Un film al mese” returns with “Il giovane favoloso”

(28 March 2017) The programme “Un film al mese” that promotes Italian cinema makes a comeback at the Italian Cultural Institute of Vienna with Mario Martone’s “Il giovane favoloso” (Leopardi) following the screening of “Apnea” (2005) by Roberto Dordit with Claudio Santamaria, Fabrizia Sacchi, Michela Noonan and Diego in February. Martone’s film “Leopardi” is about Giacomo Leopardi starring Elio Germano and Michele Riondino, Massimo Popolizio, Anna Mouglalis, Valerio Binasco, and Isabella Ragonese. The film screening will take place today, March 28th at 19:00 at the ICI. (red)

THE FILM

Leopardi was a prodigal child who grew up under his father’s relentless scrutiny, in a household that resembled a library. Giacomo’s mind wanders, but his home is a prison: he reads everything but the universe is out there. Throughout Europe, the world is changing: revolutions break out and Giacomo desperately searches contacts with the outside world. At the age of 24, he finally leaves Recanati. High Italian society opens its door to this young rebel, but he fails to adapt.
