ABOUT / THE IIC

The Italian Institute of Culture in Belgrade was founded in 1940. After a long break of the Italian cultural presence in the Yugoslav capital because of the war and post-war events, the Italian Cultural Institute resumed its activities in 1965, occupying at first a building in the city center (Obilićev venac) and in 1972 it moved in via Njegoševa 47, in an Art Nouveau building of the 20's, located in the center of Belgrade, of which the Institute occupied the second and third floors. Since January 2006, it moved to a temporary headquarters at Krunska Street n. 9, awaiting transfer to new premises in Kneza Miloša n. 56 (formerly the site of the Embassy of Albania), called "Palazzo Italia".
