 Maestro Nicola Luisotti guest of Italian Conductors in New York

(4 April 2017) For the series “Italian Conductors in New York” (Italian Cultural Institute of New York), Maestro Nicola Luisotti will be in conversation with music historian, Harvey Sachs on April 6th from 18:00-20:00 at the ICI. Luisotti has been the music director of the San Francisco Opera since 2009 and has conducted over 40 operas and concerts since his Company debut in 2005. He recently conducted the world premier of Marco Tutino’s La Ciociara, his Company’s Luisa Miller, Lucia Lammermoor, and Don Carlo. During the 2015-2016 season, he also led a symphonic concert at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and was on the podium at Madrid’s Teatro Real for Rigoletto. He returned to Milan’s Teatro della Scala to lead performances of Rigoletto, followed by London’s Royal Opera, Convent Garden for Il Trittico and La Traviata and Paris for a new production of Rigoletto at Opéra Bastille. Luisotti’s international success and acclaim for the press and public alike include performances with the opera companies of New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Vienna’s Staatsoper, Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice, La Fenice in Venice, Bologna’s Teatro Comunale, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Dresden, Hamburg, Valencia, Los Angeles Opera, Seattle Opera, and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. Luisotti was awarded the 39th Premio Puccini Award in conjunction with the 100-year anniversary of La Fanciulla del West at the Metropolitan Opera which he conducted in 2010. Luisotti is the former music director of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples where he conducted Aida, I Masnadieri, and the Verdi Requiem. This season, Luisotti will conduct the San Francisco Opera productions of Andrea Chénier, Aida, and Rigoletto. He will also lead La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera and Pagliacci at Teatro Regio di Torino. (Red)


LUISOTTI’S COLLABORATIONS

On the concert stage Luisotti has worked with the San Francisco Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Rome’s Santa Cecilia Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica de Madrid, Orchestra of Teatro Regio in Turin, and Tokyo Symphony. Maestro Luisotti is also on the podium of DVD recordings including the Metropolitan Opera’s La Bohème, the Royal Opera’s Don Giovanni and Nabucco and San Francisco’s Opera Mefistofele. Other works include a complete recording of Stiffelio and Duets with Dresden Staatskapelle featuring Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón.
