(April 14, 2017) After the closing of N.I.C.E. Festival (New Italian Cinema Events), sold out in Moscow and in St. Petersburg, Russia continues to celebrate the contemporary Italian cinema. Tuesday, April 18 at 19 at the Italian Institute of Culture in St. Petersburg will be screened the film "L’Oriana" by Marco Turco (2015), dedicated to the journalist Oriana Fallaci. Brave, edgy, controversial, nasty, brilliant: Fallaci is one of the most important and controversial figures of the Italian and world journalism. The evening is organized by the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Institute of Culture in cooperation with the Italian language lecturer, Professor Francesco Filipperi. The film, screened in Italian with English subtitles, covers the main stages of her life as a woman and a journalist and the various events are narrated in the form of memories: her career is marked by important interviews to the powerful of the world among which the one to Imam Khomeini. In 2001 she’s in New York where she witnesses the Twin Towers attack: here begins a campaign against Islamic extremism which will mark the last years of her life luring much criticism even from those with whom she had shared many battles. ABOUT / THE MOVIE

Oriana, aided by a college student named Lisa, traces her life since, as a girl, she supported the partisans against the Nazis, helping her father. From there, she goes back to the first interviews like those with Gina Lollobrigida or Federico Fellini up to those with Americans astronauts who landed on the moon. One of the most important steps is that of the Vietnam War, where she met her first love, the French journalist François Pelou, which she had a long relationship with. In 1968 Oriana remains wounded and is presumed dead during the student riots in Mexico City, but a pries saves her. In 1972 she meets the Greek revolutionary Alexandros Panagulis and with him she began the relationship that marks her life forever.
