“The Coronation of Poppea

(20 April, 2017) A production of "The Coronation of Poppea", Claudio Monteverdi’s latest theatre masterpiece, this evening (Thursday, 20 April at 20:30) at the Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires (M.T. de Alvear 1125). Monteverdi composed this piece in 1642 and performed in Venice at the 1643 carnival season at the SS. Giovanni e Paolo theatre. This is an opportunity to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Italian composer’s birth (Cremona, May 9, 1567 - Venice, 29 November 1643). The Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires communicates that the performance is part of "New Harmonia" put on by the Coliseo Theatre in a co-production with Buenos Aires Lirica. At the helm of the drama we find Marcelo Lombardero, director of the Chamber Opera of the Teatro Colón. The production will be lead by Marcelo Birman - director of the musical group "Compañia de las Luces". "The Coronation" is considered of Monteverdi’s work Monteverdi, whose work as a composer marked the transition from Renaissance music to Baroque music. The work contains tragic and comic scenes and is a realistic portrayal of the characters and warm melodies, which had never been heard before. (Red)

Claudio Monteverdi was an Italian composer, cellist, and singer. He marked the transition from traditional polyphonic music and madrigals of the sixteenth century to the birth of lyric opera and drama of the seventeenth century.
