(24 April 2017) The Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid participated in the Semana del Cortometraje, organised by the Comunidad de Madrid from April 24 - 30 and this year, presents Italy as the guest country.The Italian National Centre of for Short Films has selected some of the most important recent documentaries: "La Santa che dorme" (The Saint that Sleeps) by Mateusz Głowacki; "Food for thought" by Davide Gentile; "Good News" of Giovanni Fumu; "Ego" by Lorenza Indovina; "Ossa" (Bones) by Dario Imbrogno; and "Lo Steinway" by Massimo Ottoni.The National Short Film Centre is a National AIACE (Italian Association of Friends of Cinema d'Essai) project, in collaboration with the Museo Nazionale del Cinema (National Film Museum). It is supported by the The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, the Region of Piedmont, and the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino Foundation. Established in 2007 as a film library and marketing agency for Italian short film, it has recovered and digitised more than 300 digital supports, from film to magnetic tape. Its action is aimed at the domestic production of any genre, lasting up to 30''. Present in the main international markets, it is the privileged spokesperson for festivals and foreign buyers on the Italian short film market. The Group also operates as an information desk for the production and dissemination of the Italian short films. The National Short Film Centre does not make contributions of any kind but organises professional gatherings, both in Italy and abroad and in collaboration with leading institutions in the sector, starting with the Festival International du Court-métrage of Clermont-Ferrand. The seventeenth century three-storied Abrantes Palace is home to the Italian Cultural Institute of /0} Madrid, located in the heart of the city. It contains an exhibition space, two large multi-purpose rooms that can be adapted for exhibitions, conferences, concerts and film screenings; a library and a beautiful kitchen. In February 2009, thanks to the Ottavio and Rosita Missoni Foundation, the old salon of the Palacio Abrantes Salon has been renovated and transformed into a theatre, returning to its former glory. The Institute's literary evenings are often held in the Sala Cafe Milano on the ground floor, where all the furniture has been provided by Italian design firms, with the support of the City of Milan and Cosmit.
