Great Italian scientists at the IIC: appointment with Guglielmo Marconi

(April 24, 2017) "There were three great moments in my inventor life. The first, when the radio signals sent by me made a bell ringing from the other side of the room where I was doing my experiments; The second, when the signals transmitted by my Poldhu station in Cornwall were captured by the receiver I was listening to in St. John of Newfoundland on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean at a distance of about 3000 km; The third is now, whenever I can serenely imagine the future possibilities and feel that the activity and efforts of my whole life have provided solid foundations on which one can continue to build". It was written by Guglielmo Marconi in December of 1935. Now the Italian physicist, father of the radio, "comes back to life" at the Italian Cultural Institute in San Francisco. The Leonardo da Vinci Society, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, will hold the second of a cycle of conferences celebrating Italian scientists who have made unique and stellar contributions to the world at large and have left their imprint in the San Francisco Bay Area. The first conference scheduled is dedicated to Marconi (1874-1937), the inventor of wireless communication and is scheduled for May 11. Paola Tonelli, Director of the Leonardo da Vinci Culture sector, will talk about Marconi, one of the most prominent scientists in the history of modern technology. And not just that. Marco Pavone and Fabrizio Capobianco, two brilliant young Italian scientists will join us and describe their work and their achievements, both in Italy and in the Bay Area. (PO / red)
