 “Maloza the Man Cub” at the Theatre Festival for Young Audiences

(May 17, 2017) The Bruno Cappagli theatre show Maloza the Man Cub participates in the Cradle of Creativity, a Theatre Festival for Young Audiences and the 19th International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People World Congress (ASSITEJ), taking place in Cape Town from 17 to 27 May 2017. The production, a 4 year collaboration between Italy and Zambia, is presented by the IIC in Pretoria with La Baracca, Amani and Assitej. The schedule of performances is the following: Tuesday 23 May at 11:00 at the Amphiteatre, Baxter Theatre Centre, Main Road, Rondebosch, Cape Town, Wednesday 24 May at 10:00 and at 12:30 at the Amphiteatre, Baxter Theatre Centre, Main Road, Rondebosch, Cape Town, Thursday 25 May at 16:00 at the Piazza, Artscape Theatre Centre, D F Malan Street, Foreshore, Cape Town. The show is an adaptation of the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. The story of a child growing outside of his natural habitat, a story of formation and growth. Maloza - african word that means taboo - is rejected by the animals like street-children are rejected by their own families and by society. Maloza's talent and energy are out of the ordinary. These will help him to redeem himself. Director Bruno Cappagli studied theater at the University of Bologna, he is the artistic director of the Italian theater La Baracca - Testoni Ragazzi, famous for its avant-garde productions for children and teenagers. With the "Ambassador Project", led by him and dedicated to children and youth in war zones and developing countries, he has brought numerous shows to Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Brazil, Mozambique and Zambia. Amani is an Italian nonprofit organization dedicated to the rights of children and teenagers to have an identity, home, food, education, health and care from an adult. The office in Zambia is led by Giacomo D'Amelio. Assitej, on the other hand, is an International Children's and Children's Theater Association: a global network that aims to promote and facilitate the growth of theater for children. This nonprofit organization, founded in Paris in 1965, has members in over 100 countries, and connects thousands of artists and industry employees. Every three years it organizes a world congress in conjunction with a theatrical festival.
