An immersion into Puccini's music in Belgrade

(18 May 2017) The Italian Institute of Culture of Belgrade, in collaboration with the National Theatre of Belgrade, presents a concert-lesson dedicated to the Italian composer, Giacomo Puccini on May 18th. The host of the evening will be the Milanese maestro Alberto Veronesi, one of the most well-known Italian orchestra directors, an expert on Puccini, and president of the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, who will present the life and works of one of the most beloved composers in the world. The programme includes some selected pieces by Puccini which will be interpreted by Olivera Mercurio (soprano), Višnja Popov (mezzosoprano) and Janko Sinadinović (tenor) accompanied by Maestro Veronesi at the piano. Dejan Savić, Superintendent of the National Theatre of Belgrade, and Davide Scalmani, director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Belgrade, also attended this event.

FROM TORRE DEL LAGO TO BELGRADE

On 5 May at the Italian Institute of Culture of Belgrade, the President of the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago, Alberto Veronesi, and the Superintendent of the Belgrade National Theatre, Dejan Savić, signed a cooperation agreement between the two music institutions. Coming to its 63rd edition, the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago, born in 1930, is the most important opera festival in Italy and the only one in the world devoted to composer Giacomo Puccini, an icon of Italian opera at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century.
