Fight against terrorism and organised crime: partnership between Italy and Bosnia

(19 May 2017) Collaboration between Italy and Bosnia in justice for organised crime and the fight against terrorism. A recent meeting between the Italian Ambassador of Italy in Sarajevo, Nicola Minasi and the President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milan Tegeltija confirms this. The HJPC is a key institution for consolidating the rule of law in Bosnia in line with European standards, according to the Italian Ambassador at the end of the meeting. Italy wants to be an essential partner of this endeavour, especially in strengthening cooperation between the HJPC and the Superior Magistrate Council (CSM) by signing a MoU between the two institutions, which are now being finalised". "I also delivered a feasibility study to President Tegeltija for the transfer of advanced computer software for the fight against organised crime and terrorism in use at the National Antimafia and Counter-Terrorism Prosecution in Italy, assuring at the same time the possibility of partial European co-funding on the funds to the regional IPA project on the fight against organised crime, managed by the Italian Ministry of the Interior. Minasi indicated Italy's willingness to assist Bosnian judicial authorities in the process of consolidating the rule of law, in line with European standards, and in the fight against organised crime and terrorism. In this respect, Italy has proposed to donate to the Bosnian judicial authorities an advanced software used by the National Anti-Mafia developed on the basis of decades of experience in the fight against organised crime. ITALIAN COMMITMENT

The meeting is a further confirmation of Italian commitment to bilateral cooperation in the fight against organised crime and, more generally, in the field of justice and home affairs, as witnessed by the recent visit of a delegation of prosecutors from the National Anti-Mafia Directorate last February.
