Italy on the move: Debate on mobility, opportunity, and precariousness

(31 May 2017) Known for its emigration flow, Italy has become a country of immigration since the late seventies. Today, however, she is once again a land of new departures: emigration, the ‘brain drain', and mobility among other topics will be discussed on Thursday 15 June from 19:00 - 22:00 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Berlin (Hildebrandstrasse 12, 10785) at a round table organised with the Berlin Comites which will address European mobility of the last decade with a careful social analysis of its characteristics, perspectives, and opportunities. The debate "Italy on the move. European mobility between opportunities, precariousness, and self-realisation" will be the focus of Delfina Licata, curator of the Italian Relations in the World of the Migrantes Foundation; Luciana Degano-Kieser, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst and President of the Health Association e.V.; and Edith Pichler, Political expert at the University of Potsdam, Institute of Social Sciences and member of the Rat für Migration. Degano and Pichler are also members of the Presidency of the Berlin Comites - the representative body of all fellow citizens living in the Berlin District. The debate will be held in Italian and will be moderated by Andrea Dernbach, Der Tagesspiegel. So what is the face of a migrant Italy? How have Italian mobility and Italian society changed? What are the opportunities for these new "nomads" in a European context, and what role does the concept of one's own 'European identity' have? These are the questions that experts will try to answer.
