Cinema, 50 years without Toto: The IIC pays tribute to the Prince of laughter

(12 June 2017) Mask, puppet, and an icon of comedy. The Italian Institute of Culture of Sao Paulo pays tribute to the "Prince of laughter". On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the great Antonio de Curtis, also known as Totò, on April 15th, 1967, as part of a series of events dedicated to Italian cinema "50 years without Totò", there will be a screening of the film "Totò, Peppino e La... Malafemmina", a comedy directed by Camillo Mastrocinque in 1956 on Tuesday 20 June at 19.30 at the IIC (Salão do Instituto - av. Higienópolis, 436). Totò was one of the greatest Italian artists, an icon of comedy in Italy, an all-around artist, theatre and movie actor (he starred in 97 films) and also a poet and songwriter. (Red)

HISTORY

The protagonist of the film is the young Gianni who, during his medical studies in Naples, falls in love with Marisa, the first dancer of "avanspettacolo" (before the show). The young man decides to follow Marisa to Milan. His uncles Antonio and Peppino - landowners, countrymen, and of very little culture - together with Lucia, their younger sister and mother, fearing that Gianni could divert attention from his studies and interpreting the news - according to their mentality - as a possible scandal, they decide to go to Milan to persuade him to return to Naples and to persuade Marisa to leave him.
