(June 12, 2017) The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) is one of Asia's largest film festivals. This year the event celebrates its twentieth edition. It will be held from June 17 to June 26 in all the major theaters of the city. Italy will have its own space, a film running in the competition and nine in the Focus Italy section. According to the Shanghai IIC website, "Last year, Vito Palmieri 'See you in Texas' won the prestigious jury award. This year Italy is in competition with ‘Nel Mondo Grande e Terribile”, focused on the life and works of one of the greatest thinkers and political men of the twentieth century, Antonio Gramsci. Other nine films are in the Focus Italy section: “I Milionari” by Alessandro Piva, “Fiore” by Claudio Giovannesi, “La Guerre Horrende” by Luca Immesi and Giulia Brazzale, “Fai bei sogni” by Marco Bellocchio, “Rudy Valentino” by Nico Cirasola, “La Macchinazione” by David Grieco, “Tommaso” by Kim Rossi Stuart, “Il più grande sogno” by Michele Vannucci and “Tutto per una ragazza” by Andrea Malaioli. "Nel Mondo Grande E Terribile" is a 2017 drama by Daniele Maggioni, Maria Grazia Perria and Laura Perini, based on the Prison Notebooks of Antonio Gramsci, starring Corrado Giannetti, Lorenzo Cossu, Anita Kravos. The film tells Antonio's life and ideas. The last ten years of his life in jail are shown. A double prison: material, concrete but also intangible, imaginary.
