The best of Italian cinema in Ukraine

(20 June 2017) The best of our cinema will be featured in the Italian Cinema Week in Kiev, Odessa, Lviv, Kharkiv and Dnipro from June 21 to July 6, from Paolo Virzì to Gianfranco Rosi. This Film event organised by the Italian Institute of Culture of Kiev in collaboration with Arthouse Traffic, represents an overview of quality Italian cinema and offers the Ukrainian public to view original Italian films with subtitled in Ukrainian. Some of the most recent Italian films will be screened: the comedy film "Like Crazy" (La pazza gioia) by Paolo Virzì (2016), winner of 5 David of Donatello and "Have you ever been on the moon? (Sei ma stata sulla luna?) by Paolo Genovese (2015), the documentary that contributed to raising awareness about landings at Lampedusa, "Fuocoammare" by Gianfranco Rosi (2016), awarded with the Golden Bear in Berlin, and "L'Accabadora" by Enrico Pau (2015) - a portrait of a female figure of the 1930s, halfway between history and legend. Some strong themes (mental illness, marginalisation, acceptance and solidarity, family relationships, and death) are presented in unique landscapes in the Italian regions: Tuscany, Lampedusa, Apulia, and Sardinia. Italy maintains a top spot in the international film scene thanks to the expression of authors and interpreters such as those presented in this festival. Horizons and projects that are also co-produced, not least the Italian-Ukrainian production of Andrea Magnani's "Easy", at the next Locarno Film Festival. The Cinema and the Italian Language in Cinema Week will be the focus of the next Week of Italian Language in the third week of October. (Red)

THE IIC

The Italian Institute of Culture of Kiev Kiev is located in Yaroslaviv Val, one of the oldest parts of the Ukrainian capital, full of architectural testimonies of the 11th and 13th centuries. The street is named after Jaroslav the Wise (978-1054), prince of Kyjiv (Kiev), who built a bulwark around the city (in fact, "val" in Ukrainian) - a symbol and testimony of his victories over Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Byzantines, which resulted in the formation of the first nucleus of ancient Rus'. Established in 1998, the Italian Institute of Culture is located on the third floor of the same art nouveau brick building - brick-colored ivory bricks - which houses the Chancellery and the Consular Section.
