Dermatology: 10 years of twinning between the University of Pisa and the University of Miami

(29 June 2017) The University of Pisa confirms its strong international spirit once again and celebrates an important event. The twinning between the Universities of Pisa and Miami in the field of dermatology, in fact, began 10 years ago. "The agreement between our university and that of Miami - underlines Marco Romanelli, professor at Pisa and director of the Dermatology Clinic of the University of Pisa Hospital - celebrates ten years that have produced great results mainly for young medical students, from this point of view, the motto of the symposium 'Eppur si muove' by the famous Galileo Galilei is truly the driving force of the initiatives linked to this inter-university agreement". The faces of the anniversary celebrations are two young American students at the School of Medicine visiting Pisa, Madeline Lederer and Karishma Desai are two of the most recent students to embark on the opportunity to attend both universities and fundamental experiences for their academic careers. Such as the opportunity to attend the International Symposium Galilei of Dermatology, promoted annually through the twinning programme, which took place in Pisa from June 15 to 16 June, organised by Romanelli. "The Galileo Symposium was an incredible experience to listen to the the world's most important scholars. It was also a great privilege to practice in the dermatological clinic at the Santa Chiara Hospital," says 25-year-old Madeline Lederer who chose to stay at San Piero a Grado, in the "beautiful" Tuscan countryside near the sea during her stay in Pisa. Equally enthusiastic, Karishma Desai, in her second year at the University of Miami School of Medicine. "I feel very fortunate to be able to stay in Italy thanks to this international exchange programme which allows me to support both my passion for medicine and culture" stated Desai. (Red)

On the days of the Symposium, Madeline and Karishma had the opportunity to meet Preetha Kamath and Inna Granowsky - two other students from the University of Miami who in recent months have been in Pisa and who have returned this year to hold a seminar at the Dermatology Department at Santa Chiara.
