Music from Sicily with Ensemble Leuterius

(29 June 2017) An evening in Berlin in the name of popular Sicilian tradition at the interior courthouse of the Italian Embassy, tomorrow, June 30th at 19:00 for the "Sicula Danza" concert by Ensemble Leuterius. The concert was organised by the Italian Institute of Culture in Berlin with the patronage of the City of Agrigento and traces the various harmonies of Sicilian dance music. Ensemble Leuterius proposes various aspects of dance music from Sicily offering the audience the opportunity to hear archaic instruments: from Urbana with Barbiere's pieces with a prevalence of string instruments, to the oldest musical traditions belonging to shepherds and farmers, This music, once linked to intense and meaningful choreographic and social rituals will leave the audience impressed by their rhythmic and timbral strength referring to an ancient Mediterranean culture that is almost disappeared. The protagonists will be Fabio Tricomi (mandolin, tamburello, ciaramedda, marranzano, friscaletto), Alessandro Urso (violin), and Sandro Sorrentino (guitar, mandolin). (Red)

MUSIC AND TRADITION

Fabio Tricomi is a musician and ethnomusicologist from Catania. Since 1983, he has devoted himself to researching and documenting musical aspects related to the Sicilian tradition. The direct experience with traditional musicians of his region has led him to deepen his knowledge, techniques, styles on various pastoral instruments (such as drumsticks, tambourines, canopies, and zampogne). He is also specialised in older instruments (lutes), Arabic instruments (oud, nay, zarb, kemenche), and medieval (viella, lira). He currently performs as a soloist and as part of established ensembles in major music festivals. He has also published various works on oral music and teaches ancient and traditional instruments at the Ivan Illich Music School in Bologna and on stages in Italy and abroad.
