(12 July 2017) Francesca Fini makes a stop in Portugal. Francesca Fini is one of the greatest exponents, not just Italian, of what is termed "performance art": a form of direct and effective communication that immediately affects those who experience it. In appearance, it resembles theatre, but it has its own expressive codes. Francesca Fini's exhibitions are well-known abroad (she exhibits her work in galleries and museums all over the world) and now the Portuguese town of Coimbra is awaiting her. She will perform, at the Polivalente da Casa da Cultura Rua Pedro Monteiro on Friday July 14th at 9:30. The performance was organised by Project Videolab de Coimbra in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture of Lisbon. The performance of the Italian video artist is called "Skin / Tones" and is part of the 12th edition of Fonlad, the International Vídeo, Art, and Performance Festival, organised by Projecto Videolab in Coimbra with the support of the IIC. The exhibition ironically plays on the concept of biometrics. In fact, a microscope will be used during Fini's biometric performance. Fini will sit naked in front of two neon lights, with her back towards the audience so that only the silhouette of her body is visible. Holding a digital microscope in her fist, she will slowly and gently explore the multiform fabric of her skin. (red)

WHO IS FRANCESCA FINI

Francesca Fini works with mixed media, video, and performance. Her projects always deal with strong social and political "by staging a body that is amplified by technology that nevertheless maintains its animal and biological nature" (Alessio Galbiati / Confidential Relationship - Digicult). For her performances and videos, she often works with lo-fi technologies, home-made interaction design devices, live audio and video, hacking and manipulating everyday objects such as surveillance cameras, wiimotes, webcams, home sensors and therapeutic electrodes. All of these tools are used to explore reality in its most disturbing manifestations and revealing its ironic side.
