The Peace Orchestra of Bosnia and Herzegovina

(13 July 2017) Two events dedicated to culture, excellence, and art. Yesterday morning, at the Italian Embassy to Sarajevo, a press conference was held about the presentation of two important cultural events held and organised with the Embassy, which will be held at the end of July in Italy. This is the establishment of the Bosnia Herzegovina Peace Orchestra and the exhibition at the Chamber of Deputies of a selection of works from the Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Sarajevo, Ars Aevi project. Together with Ambassador Nicola Minasi, the conference was attended by the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Canton of Sarajevo, Mirvad Kurić, representatives of the Peace Orchestra, Ars Aevi, and Banca Unicredit which secured a financial contribution to Ars Aevi's project. Minasi highlighted the link between the two initiatives with the social and cultural objectives of the Trieste Summit within the Berlin Process for European Integration of the Western Balkans. It is no coincidence that the presentation took place the same day as the Summit. The Orchestra of Peace stems from the impetus of the Music Riva Festival in Riva del Garda (Trento) and on the initiative of the Director, Mietta Sighele. Like every year, the Festival wanted to invite a young orchestra to play with an affirmed orchestra director. In agreement with the Embassy, it was decided to form an orchestra for the occasion, bringing together musicians from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina and all its communities, resulting in a new formation: the Bosnia Herzegovina Peace Orchestra. The orchestra will be in Italy from July 20 - 30 to perform in three concerts. "The initiative is therefore a concrete implementation of the commitment to develop projects that can engage and unite young people from the Western Balkans, a fundamental objective of the Youth Forum organised at the margins of the Trieste Summit" according to a statement released by the Embassy. THE EXHIBITION

The exhibition of some of the works of the Ars Aevi collection is a testament to the Italy's commitment to spread knowledge about the excellence of Bosnian art and culture in Italy, subscribing to Italy's 2017 presidency of the Berlin Process on the European integration of the Western Balkans. The engine behind the initiative is the Italian Parliament which - following the institutional visit of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives last May - recognised the great character of the Ars Aevi collection as a symbol of Sarajevo's historical event and as a metaphor for the reconstruction of Bosnia Herzegovina. Therefore, upon invitation of the President of the Foreign Commission, Fabrizio Cicchitto; and the President of the Culture Commission of the House; Flavia Piccoli Nardelli, the exhibition "Nine works from nine collections of the Ars Aevi - Sarajevo Museum" will open on Tuesday 18 July 2017 at 18:00 at the Monumental Complex of Vicolo Valdina in Rome (Piazza Campo Marzio, 42).
