(18 August 2017) “Bologna Illustrators Exhibitions” returns to Beijing August 20th until October 8th at the Today Art Museum. The aim of the exhibition is to discover new children’s illustrators and trends. The exhibition was first established in 1967 a few years apart from the establishment of the fair. The exhibition that is normally held during the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, has accompanied the development of children’s books which has increasingly integrated the creative dynamics from the purest tradition of the illustrated novel until the establishment of illustrated booklets as a primarily visual way of expression, as well as the recent so-called ‘silent books’ in which images replace text in telling a story.

THE EXHIBITION

The Illustrator’s Exhibition features a wide selection of artists from different cultures, creating an international showcase of the latest tendencies in children’s illustration. In its fifty-year history, the collective has seen the participation of thousands of published and unpublished editors, unknown and established. It has been a launching pad for many of these artists. The exhibition that took place at the Fair in April 2016 commemorated the 50th anniversary, demonstrating how the history of illustration unfolded in Bologna.
