Opera, Dido's myth: an international conference

(1 September 2017) Dido is a subject that has always been popular theme in the opera: after the debut of Busenello and Cavalli - and before the Abandoned Dido of Metastasio - the myth is put into music everywhere. In Prague, on the occasion of the first representation in the modern era of the work "Dido" by Antonio Boroni, will be held the international musicology conference "Dido as an Opera subject" organized by the Department of Music History of the Institute of Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic on 16 and 17 September in the Baroque Culture Center of Český Krumlov under the X Festival of Baroque Arts. Lorenzo Bianconi, Director of the Institute of Musicology at the University of Bologna, Andrea Chegai, Director of the Institute of Musicology at La Sapienza University and Antonella D'Ovidio of the University of Florence will attend the conference, which has the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague. "Dido" by Antonio Boroni, scheduled for September 15 at 6pm (and on September 16 and 17 at 5 pm) at the Castle Theater. The soloists and the baroque Hof-Musik Orchestra will be conducted, at the harpsichord, by Maestro Ondřej Macek. (Red)


ABOUT / THE OPERA

The work, written on a libretto by Pietro Metastasio, was composed by Antonio Boroni (1738 - 1792) in Prague, where from 1767 to 1768 he took the place of master chaplain of the Italian opera company at theV Kotcích Theater, which in 1768 hosted the world premiere of the opera.
