Stronger relations in mobility and research between the University of Siena and China

(5 September 2017) Relations in mobility and research have gotten stronger between the University of Siena and China. A meeting with a delegation of executives at Tongde Hospital in the Zhejiang Province, one of the most well-equipped public hospitals in China, located in Hangzhou City, was held yesterday in the Palace of the Rectorate of the Tuscan University. Rector Francesco Frati, the delegate for international relations, Luca Verzichelli and professors in medical, biomedical, and life sciences attended the gathering on behalf of the University of Siena. The visit was organised in the framework of a structured agenda of relations between the university and health-care institutions of Hangzhou, the University of Siena and the University of Siena Hospital with the aim of activating future collaborations primarily for the mobility of students and researchers. "Hangzhou has already developed an intensive programme of relationships with centres of excellence in Korea and various Western countries, and Siena is one of the candidates for activating an exchange in Europe" stated Professor Verzichelli. "Moreover, contact with Hangzhou can be developed through a cultural dialogue between the techniques and philosophies of medicine. In fact, this hospital has combined the use of traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine for a long time, it is home to an annual conference on the need to overcome the barriers between medicinal approaches, as well as to carry on several innovative projects, including one on immuno- oncology and one on incremental reduction of antibiotics. Hangzhou showed interest in hosting the contribution of Western medicine and intends to invest resources in this direction. Collaboration in this regard could be interesting both for the welfare of many Chinese living in Italy, who often choose to return to China for treatment due to linguistic and cultural reasons as well as for the development of medical research".(9Colonne)-
