“Women of science” gather in Lithuania

(11 September, 2017) The round-table “Women of science” about the role of women in various scientific fields, especially exact science will take place on September 12th at 17:00 in the small room of the Academy of Science of Lithuania (Gedimino pr. 3, Vilnius). The round-table discussion was an initiative of the Polish Institute in Vilnius in the context of the Science Festival (September 11th-16th on “Spaceship – Earth”). Representatives of various European countries will share their experiences. Among the guests of the round-table are Agnieszka Zalewska, the former president of the CERN council and physicist from the Jagellonian University of Krakow and the first woman to hold such a high position. Marcella Diemoz, director of the INFN based in the Rome Section, will also participate. Lithuania is represented by Dr. Urte Neniskyte, a researcher from the Neurobiology and Biophysics of the Centre of Life Sciences of the University of Vilnius, and scholarship holder of “L’Oreal – UNESCO”. The Italian Institute of Culture of Vilnius is a partner of the round-table discussion. (Red)


THE CHALLENGES WOMEN FACE IN SCIENCE

The personal achievements of the scientists will be briefly presented during the first portion of the discussion along with the legal aspect, scientific developments in various countries, the “glass ceiling” and gender equality. In the final portion of the conference there will be a discussion on the challenges woman have to face in science.
