Borghese-Fendi Gallery: exporting Italian beauty to the world with Caravaggio

(14 September 2017) After the exhibition "Matrice" at Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana and the installation in Largo Goldoni of the Stone Leaves work, both by the artist Giuseppe Penone, Fendi strengthens its bond with Rome and the art world announcing a three-year partnership with the Borghese Gallery; an ambitious project that involves the establishment of the Caravaggio Research Institute, promoted through an international exhibition on the artist from Los Angeles to Asia, and support for three consecutive years for exhibitions that will take place at the Galleria Borghese. The Galleria Borghese has the most substantial and chronologically representative body of work by Caravaggio, which is the ideal standard for the study of his artistic career. The Caravaggio Research Institute stems from this state-of-the-art collection preserved over the centuries and was conceived by Anna Coliva, Director of the Galleria Borghese and supported by FENDI. The programme will lead to the establishment of a study, diagnostic and art historical research centre on Caravaggio and his work at Galleria Borghese, and is expected to be the leading centre in Caravaggio research worldwide. The project consists of the creation of a digital platform representing a comprehensive online database for Caravaggio, for bibliographic, documentary, archival, philological, historiographic, and iconographic information equipped with a digital diagnostic kit. In order to share about this innovative research project, Galleria Borghese and FENDI have conceived of an exhibition programme, which will also travel over the course of three years, to places of greatest importance and excellence: from the United States to Asia. The first edition of the exhibition will be in November 2017 at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles; an institution of great prestige for the orientation of culture in a continent that looks towards the future but has a deep tie with its European roots. From November 21st, the Getty Museum will host for the first time, three works by Caravaggio from the Galleria Borghese: Saint Jerome Writing, Boy with a Basket of Fruits and David with the Head of Goliath. BERNINI EXHIBITION

The first exhibition at the Galleria Borghese sponsored by FENDI will be on Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the most representative figure of the Baroque in Rome. The Bernini exhibition, with which the Galleria Borghese continues its celebrations for the twentieth anniversary since its reopening in 1997, has an international reputation of uniqueness perceived even by the largest museums that have granted outstanding loans. Just to name a few: Louvre, National Gallery and Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Thyssen Bornemisza in Madrid, Staatliche Museum in Berlin, Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, Kunsthalle in Hamburg, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Art Gallery of Ontario, Getty Museum and LACMA in Los Angeles, and the Kimbell Art Museum in Forth Worth. The Bernini exhibition will be inaugurated on October 31st and will be open to the public from November 1st 2017 to February 1st 2018.
