(September 15, 2017) Standing ovation and ten minutes of applause greeted the Aida of the Regio Theater that inaugurated the Royal Opera House's season in Muscat, Oman.A packed theater and a great success: Regio's Orchestra and Choir are conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, directed by William Friedkin. In the cast of this important tour, prominent solo stars of international recognition such as Kristin Lewis (Aida), Anita Rachvelishvili (Amneris), Gregory Kunde (Radamès) and Ambrose Maestri (Amonasro). Complete cast: In-Sung Sim (Ramfis), Giacomo Prestia (the King), Dario Prola (a messenger) and Silvia Beltrami (a priestess). Encore performance on Saturday September 16: Saioa Hernández plays Aida, Gastón Rivero plays Radamès, Andrea Comelli is the king and Roberto Guenno a messenger. Friedkin's direction is taken by Riccardo Fracchia, personally chosen by the great film director, scenes and costumes by Carlo Diappi, choreographic movements by Anna Maria Bruzzese, lights by Andrea Anfossi. The Choir of the Regio Theater, engaged in important steps within opera, is taught by Claudio Fenoglio. The Regio tour in Oman will end with a last recital on Sunday, September 17. (Red)


ABOUT / THE REGIO

The new Regio Theater was inaugurated on April 10, 1973 with Giuseppe Verdi’s Vespri Siciliani, directed by Maria Callas and Giuseppe Di Stefano. Since then, production has progressively increased, up to the recurrences that have marked the history of the recent years of the Regio: in 1990 the 250th anniversary of its foundation, in 1996 the centenary of the "world premiere” of Bohème on live tv , in 1998 the 25 years of the new theater (with a major acoustic restoration), in 2006 the extraordinary adventure of the XX Winter Olympics and the Olympic Games of Culture.
