Tribute to Castiglione, the Jesuit painter at the Qing court

(September 20, 2017) The exhibition "Giuseppe Castiglione, a painter in the Forbidden City", dedicated to the Jesuit painter and missionary (Milan, 1688 - Beijing, 1766) will be open to the public until October 13, at the Italian Cultural Institute in Ljubljana, who from 1715 lived and worked in China. The exhibition features a series of original illustrations by Huiqin Wang, a Chinese artist who lived in Ljubljana for over 30 years, already published in a 2015 volume. In the same year, to celebrate the third centennial of Castiglione's arrival in China his first monographic exhibition in Italy, organized in collaboration with the Museum of the National Palace of Taipei, was set up at the Santa Croce Memorial in Florence. In China Castiglione, for over fifty years and under the reign of three different emperors, served with great success as a court artist, creating an original style that united western and eastern techniques.
