Youth Delegates to the United Nations, the first time in Italy

(28 September 2017) Italy is also participating in the United Nations Youth Delegates Program (UNYDP) this year, which will allow two young Italians to participate in the forthcoming days at the 72nd UN General Assembly. The United Nations program envisages the inclusion of young people at national diplomatic missions at the UN and is active in 38 countries. In Italy, UNYDP is promoted and organized by the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the World Federation of the United Nations Associations (WFUNA). "It is a great opportunity for young Italians as well as for Italy, who, proving to be at the forefront in the implementation of United Nations youth policies, confirms the dynamism and responsibility of our country within the UN system," states the President of SIOI and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Franco Frattini. The Italian Youth Delegates selected for this first edition of the program are Giuseppina De Marco and Tommaso Murè, two talented university students from the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna and the Roma Tre University, partners of the Program together with Leonardo Spa.

ABOUT / THE MANDATE

The mandate of the "Youth Delegates" is to represent the instances and ideas of young Italians in the international sphere, participate in decision-making processes and play the role of youth ambassadors during the work of the Third Commission of the 72nd UN General Assembly, alongside the diplomatic delegation official. When they return to Italy, Giuseppina and Tommaso will meet high school students and universities, representatives of youth and student organizations to share their experience, promote UN activities and the UN system and present the Youth Delegate Program 2018/2019.
