The Bessel Award for an Inaf researcher from Trieste

Gabriella De Lucia, researcher at the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) in Trieste, won the "Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel" award of the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. International recognition comes with funding that will allow De Lucia to develop a long-term research project thanks to a one-year stay in a German research institute of her choice. De Lucia's research focus is the formation and evolution of galaxies in the cosmological context, a theme addressed by theoretical astrophysics with all the most advanced technologies in the field of simulation of evolution of astrophysical systems used to shed light on the evolution of stars in galaxies, on the dependence of the formation processes and galactic evolution from the environment and on the formation of disk galaxies similar to our Milky Way. The Bessel award is awarded annually to 20 scientists of any discipline who, citing freely from von Humboldt's mission "are not Germans, are internationally reknowned in their field, who have completed their doctorate less than 18 years ago and who in the future will continue to contribute to science at the highest levels, science that will have seminal influence in their discipline even outside their particular field of research ". The institute chosen by the researcher for this new venture is the Heidelberg Centre for Astronomy (Astronomisches Rechen-Institut, ARI).
