Applications of artificial intelligence (AI), both in science and technology, are numerous. Few, however, would expect AI to help us understand the origins of a current and pressing problem like climate change. A recent research by the National Institute for Research on Air Pollution (IIA-CNR), published in the journal Nature Reports and conducted in collaboration with the University of Turin and the University of Roma Tre, has shown how models of networks of artificial neurons (so-called neural networks) are able to 'understand' the complex relationships between various human or natural influxes and climate behaviour.
