From January 18th to 27th, 2019 the Brooklyn Theatre Pretoria organised, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria, a new production of "Il Don Giovanni" by Mozart, which will be staged at the Brooklyn Theatre. The opera, set up by Salon Music, will feature both South African (Deirdré van Schalkwyk plays Donna Anna and Linelle Wimbles Donna Elvira) and international artists (the Spanish tenor based in Florence Antonio Garés in the role of Don Ottavio and the Viennese baritone Lukas Johan in the role of Don Giovanni). The IIC of Pretoria coordinated the realization of the libretto of the opera, by Lorenzo da Ponte and performed for the first time in 1787 in Prague. The libretto, in addition to the bilingual Italian-English text and information on the production, contains information on the history of the great Italian librettist.
