Cinema, Fellini and Olmi: a comparison in Vienna

Two of the most extraordinary directors of Italian cinema in comparison, as part of the exhibition scheduled in Vienna from 10 January to 28 February at the Osterreichisches Filmmuseum. First is Federico Fellini (1920-1993), who has become one of the most famous filmmakers in the world thanks to films such as "La strada" (1954) and "La dolce vita" (1960). His style is so unmistakable that he gave rise to the adjective "felliniano", which describes a fantastic (and imaginative) excess that goes beyond the simple grotesque. Less popular, but ass well important, is the work of Ermanno OImi, recently deceased (1931-2018). Already with his debut "Il posto e I fiancati", the director proved to be a key figure in Italian cinema in the early 60s, and during his career he had great international success with works such as "L'albero degli zoccoli" (1978) , Golden Palm at Cannes, or "The Legend of the Holy Drinker" (1988), Golden Lion in Venice, based on the homonymous story by Joseph Roth. The event is organized in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture.
