The Italian certification body CSQA has certified two Indonesian Geographical Indications, the result of "Arise+ Indonesia", the international trade support project at the center of the cooperation framework between the EU and the Asian country. Representing Indonesia among the world PGI PDOs will be two iconic products of the largest archipelago state in the world, the Garam Amed Bali/Bunga Garam Amed Bali DOP sea salt and the Kulonprogo Coconut Sugar. Garam Amed Bali (salt) and Bunga Garam Amed Bali (salt flower) are hand-picked sea salts that have been produced using traditional methods for over 700 years in the Amed region on the island of Bali. They are famous among haute cuisine chefs for their salty taste easily lost without the bitter aftertaste of common salt and the ability to crumble easily in the mouth. The production is supported by a chain of 20 operators who have been carrying on the product of excellence for generations. On October 14, 2022, the PDO was officially registered at EU level, concluding the steps for entering the market as certified production. Kulonprogo Coconut Sugar is famous for its special taste and aroma due to the natural environment, soil and climate of the Kulon Progo area. The result of a supply chain consisting of 13 harvesting companies, 283 agricultural operators and 4 packers with an estimated production of 200,000 kg, it is characterized by its yellowish-brown color, smooth texture, high melting point and the uniqueness of the aroma and sweetness compared to other types of coconut sugar. Once the declaration of conformity has been received and the control plan has been established by the CSQA, this product is awaiting completion of the process of inclusion in the European PGI PDO register.
