"The tasks entrusted to the High Council of the Judiciary by the Constitution and the law are aimed at ensuring the independence of the judiciary, which is a pillar of our democracy, enshrined in the Constitution. Through the transparent and efficient exercise of self-government, the High Council must guarantee the autonomy and independence of the jurisdiction in the best way, and must ensure to the judicial offices the best level of professionalism of the magistrates, who carry out their activity with commitment and dedication even in complex and sometimes insidious environmental conditions. These are the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who yesterday spoke at the farewell ceremony of the outgoing members of the High Council of the judiciary. "The judiciary has in its constitutional values, in its field and in its history, the resources to face difficulties and to ensure - authoritatively and credibly - respect for the legality indispensable for the life and civil growth of society and our country as a whole," added the Head of State.
