Six years ago there was a historical event at the Lotto game: the number 53 was drawn on the National wheel, after a wait of 257 contests. Never before had a number taken so long in this game. As much as 34 million euros were won thanks to the return of 53 on the eleventh wheel. The record for highest winnings of all time distributed to date by a centenary number belongs to the 31 on the wheel of Bari, which stopped its race after 167 draws: when it came out, in April 2000, it dispensed prizes for 903.7 million euros. An absolute record, which approached only four years after the 8 on the wheel of Palermo thanks to which, after a delay lasting 133 rounds, a total of 810.9 million euros was won. Far from these figures are the two historical laggards: 53 on the wheel of Venice and 34 on that of Cagliari. On February 9, 2005, after an absence of 182 draws, it paid prizes of 513 million euros. Lower was the figure won with the second highest delay ever: on April 1, 2006, the 34 returned onto the wheel of Cagliari after a delay of 204 competitions. The total winnings in that case were 291 million euros.
