Monitoring of environmental conditions, analysis of air quality and study of the flow of visitors are the main actions that characterize the study conducted by the National Research Council (CNR) thanks to the Institute of Heritage Science (ISPC) and the Institute for Applied Mathematics "Mauro Picone" (IAC) in collaboration with the Department of Conservation of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection of Venice inside the halls of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, or the historic headquarters of the Venetian museum. Last July, the air quality analysis campaign, which was carried out inside some rooms and cases where the works are kept, and the measures on the occupation of the rooms started the collaboration between the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the CNR. Thanks to the scientific expertise put in place by the CNR, it will be possible to arrange a preventive conservation plan for the preservation of the artistic heritage collected by the patron Peggy Guggenheim. To date, the study of anthropic factors has been completed, therefore relating to the dynamics of visitor flows, conducted by the CNR-IAC, by analyzing the number of visitors per room, the time spent in front of some works and the paths followed. The study highlighted some patterns not immediately visible, suggesting how to optimize the visit path to improve the usability of the museum. In addition, the project provides for the monitoring of environmental conditions and air quality in some rooms, which will be conducted by the CNR-ISPC, to study the main gaseous, organic and inorganic pollutants through passive samplers.
