“With the draft framework law on autonomy we aim to build a more united, stronger and more cohesive Italy. The Government is embarking on a path to overcome the gaps that exist today between the territories and guarantee to all citizens, and in every part of Italy, the same rights and the same level of services. Setting essential levels of performance, which have never been determined in these years, is a guarantee of cohesion and unity. It is a measure that declines the principle of subsidiarity and gives the Regions that will ask for it a double opportunity: directly manage materials and resources and give citizens more efficient and less expensive services." Thus, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented on the approval of the draft law on differentiated autonomy that took place yesterday in the Council of Ministers. A challenging parliamentary process is now underway. Roberto Calderoli, Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies, in a press conference to present the measure, punctuates the process schedule by stating: "It is difficult to make forecasts on parliamentary times, however it should take 10-12 months, so we could have the law on differentiated autonomy by the end of 2023".
