Policies for dogs and cats are becoming increasingly popular, so much so that, according to an analysis by the Facile.it comparator, online searches for these products increased by 23% in January compared to the same month in 2022. Considering the number of dogs and cats present in Italian families and the cost of a policy for pets, for civil liability coverage alone, this market has a potential value of over 1.3 billion euros. The Labrador Retriever is the most protected canine breed with ad hoc policy, according to an analysis of over 99 thousand estimates made on the site, while the Maine Coon is the most protected feline breed. Among the cities with the highest proportion of insured four-legged friends per population, Bergamo stands out for dogs and Bologna for cats. Following the Labrador Retriever on the list of dog breeds typically covered by insurance are the Golden Retriever and the Bulldog. The American Staffordshire Terrier placed fourth, while the Maltese came in at number five. In the feline world, the Maine Coon is followed by the Siberian, European, British Shorthair, and Persian. Brescia and Padua follow Bergamo as the Italian provinces with the highest ratio of dogs covered by an insurance policy to the total population. Both Bologna and Milan round out the top five. When it comes to felines, Bologna comes in at number one, with Brescia and Milan close behind; in fourth and fifth place are Padua and Rome.
