Goodbye to another privilege in the Vatican. The Pope has decided that from now on all the cardinals and heads of the Roman Curia will have to pay the rent of the house from their own pockets and discounted canons or various contributions for accommodation will not be allowed. The squeeze is motivated by the need for resources for the Church's mission, also in favor of the “needy”. The mega penthouses or large apartments in the area around San Pietro, for which the Vatican fees are often lower than those of the Rome market, will no longer be granted free of charge or with substantial discounts. Pope Francis has ordered the repeal of all the provisions that allow the free use or under conditions of particular favor of properties owned by curial institutions and entities that refer to the Holy See, including the Domus. The provision concerns cardinals, heads of departments, presidents, secretaries, undersecretaries, directors including the auditors of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota. The property owners will therefore have to apply, even for those who occupy top positions in the Holy See, the prices normally applied to those who are without any type of office in the Vatican. All those who have a subsidized contract in progress will be able to keep it until the natural expiration, after which the new regime desired by Pope Francis will be applied. “Any exception to the new legislation will have to be directly authorized by the Pope”.
