Tourism and Family Ministers Daniela Santanché and Eugenia Roccella, together with the major hotel trade associations, announced that a network of hotels will soon be available to women victims of violence. "It will be an environment," the two ministers explained, "where women can regain their strength. Above all, the important message is that they no longer have to feel alone, that there are people and facilities on their side". About 1,000 facilities throughout Italy have joined the project, which will display the initiative's lavender-colored symbol starting tomorrow. Despite increasingly strict laws, violence against women and the number of feminicides are still on the rise. In Italy, 31.5 percent of 16-70-year-olds (6 million 788 thousand) have experienced some form of physical or sexual violence in their lifetime: 20.2 percent (4 million 353 thousand) have experienced physical violence, 21 percent (4 million 520 thousand) sexual violence, and 5.4 percent (1 million 157 thousand) the most serious forms of sexual violence such as rape (652 thousand) and attempted rape (746 thousand).
