On the 10th anniversary of his passing, the building of a museum dedicated to Pietro Mennea has been announced. It will be active from 2024 and entirely dedicated to the memory of the great Italian sprinter, Olympic champion of the 200-meter dash in Moscow 1980 and world record holder in the specialty from 1979 to 1996 with a time of 19"72, which is still the European record. The space will be housed within the Roman Foro Italico facility that already bears his name, and its construction will also be possible thanks to 80 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan bestowed by the government to Sport and Health. In this regard, Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi says, "The museum will be fast and in the sign of technology. I would like its example to be a boost for the whole country".
