A car accident yesterday morning in Rome involved national soccer team striker and Lazio captain Ciro Immobile. The player, who was driving an SUV with his two young daughters on board, collided with a streetcar near the Stadio Olimpico. The front of the car was totally destroyed and the airbags exploded. The vehicle went off the rails and leapt off the tracks. Altogether, the accident left 12 people injured, fortunately none seriously. The main casualties were the footballer and the driver of the vehicle. After the impact, Immobile was transferred to the hospital along with his older daughter. The player suffered a spinal distortion injury and compound fracture of the right 11th rib. The younger daughter, on the other hand, was taken to a children's hospital for investigation. The driver was transferred by ambulance but was discharged with a seven-day prognosis once he arrived at the hospital. The responsibility and dynamics of what happened remain to be ascertained. Immediately after the collision, Immobile explained to law enforcement officials that the streetcar allegedly ran a red light. For his part, the engineer, also speaking with some colleagues, reportedly said that he had restarted when the light was green.
